Prompt - A retelling of a classic: Frankenstein.
It wasn't terrible. Let me stress that first, it was not terrible. It was very imaginative regarding the actual science. I don't think I've ever read a clockpunk before, so it was something new. It explored social themes that I enjoy, even though they didn't make much sense here because of the time period in which the book it set.
Apart from that, everything else here was a miss for me. The main character was a whiny, selfish brat. The villains were cartoonish. Mary Shelley being part of the story could have been interesting if she, you know, had an ounce of personality. And "the Monster" was the most complex character but he didn't get nearly enough page time.
Still, wasn't terrible for a debut novel.
