Oh, how I loved this! Let me count the ways:
1) A kick ass heroine! Sola was consistent perfection in personality, growth and individuality. That counts for a lot, trust me. I love a girl who can fall in love and still be herself and not just an extension of the man she loves.
2) An alpha who can be a jerk but isn't a flaming asshole. Listen, after the previous Rustanovs, Ivan had a super high bar to reach with me and he scaled it perfectly. He was a great balance of "who I used to be isn't who I want to be anymore." And went about changing himself for himself and Sola. He didn't expect her to fix him. Hell, he didn't even feel he deserved her or to be a whole person. But he wanted that, mostly for himself, so he could be with her. Again, after reading about his cousins, especially Bair...I fully expected to hate him. I was pleasantly surprised when I started to like him and just about bowled over when I, too, fell in love.
3) No anchor babies! A couple that decided to be together because they wanted a relationship to work and not because they created a little piece of immortality together! More please!
4) Werewolves that didn't grate on my last nerve. Yes, I'm still looking at you, Rafe. Huge improvement that I hope lasts through this next influx of paranormals.
5) A smokin' hot sexy retelling of Beauty & the Beast. Original fairy-tales were cautionary tales and not the Disney musicals everyone remembers them for. So, a little sexy and sweet went a long way compared to the horror show the original was.
6) Supporting characters that were interesting and funny. Can't wait for Nitra's story!
7) That same soap-opera feel that I first fell in love with.
8) A super sexy Greek Dragon shifter made his debut and I can't wait to see what he's about. I'm a fire sign. Dragons are my patronus.
I'm honestly pretty jazzed up for the next in the series. I love TT as a writer and her skill as a storyteller is masterful...but after Bair....ugh. It took an Iain Scotswolf (Her Scottish Wolf) to erase those memories.
