Review: Always Watching

Always Watching by Chevy Stevens My rating: 1 of 5 stars I regret every minute of this. I really do. Boring, repetitive dialogue. A very dry expository first-person narrative that focused more on telling what happened than showing it. Stereotypical characters making asinine choices. A "heroine" that was equally unlikable and hard to root for; or even care about, honestly. This didn't work for me at all and I'm really surprised because this author's first book still haunts me years later. And at the center of this is a cult story. How is a cult story boring? L.A. Heat by P.A. Brown My rating: 2 of 5 stars Decent mystery but the romance is awful. I despise InstaLove. View all my reviews

Review: Yes, Chef

Yes, Chef by Linda Verji My rating: 2 of 5 stars Once I stopped taking it seriously, I was able to enjoy it for its soap-operaesque qualities. View all my reviews

Review: A Study in Honor

A Study in Honor by Claire O'Dell My rating: 2 of 5 stars Somewhere along the way, this just stopped working for me. And by somewhere , I mean the beginning, because I don't see the point of having first-person journal entries when the book is a first-person narrative. Don't mind a Black woman Holmes or Watson though. Might check out the next one. View all my reviews

Review: Key of Light

Key of Light by Nora Roberts My rating: 4 of 5 stars Always a good time to be had in a NR book that features friendships and Celtic lore mysteries to be solved. And while Carter from The Bride Quartet series remains my one true love of NR love interests, Flynn Hennessy is right up there. Looking forward to the next two books in the trilogy. Review: Medusa Uploaded

Medusa Uploaded by Emily Devenport My rating: 5 of 5 stars Stellar. Absolutely freakin' stellar! I can't even do it justice right now. Exceptional world-building, interesting characters, class wars within class wars, a slow-burn revolution and mysteries wrapped in enigmas. Just... whew . Clearly, I was in heaven. And now I'm off to read the sequel. View all my reviews

Hexes & Oh's by Koko Brown My rating: 3 of 5 stars A nice, easy escape that was cute enough to get me interested in checking out the rest of the series. View all my reviews

Review: Ever After

Ever After by Nora Roberts My rating: 3 of 5 stars This was cute in an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object and they both magically fall in love kinda way. Which, is exactly what happened. Listen, just go long for the ride in a La Nora magical realism, okay. I would have liked to see Allena give her awful family the what-for, but eh.... View all my reviews
